Soaking Lilies

from $60.00

There is a quiet magic to the Big Sur coast when a winter storm rolls through. I hiked down into Calla Lily Valley near Garrapata State Park just as a fresh coastal rain began to taper off. Setting my camera ultra-low to the ground, I wanted to capture the perspective of being immersed within the valley floor. The wild calla lilies were glistening, literally soaking up the fresh raindrops on their ivory petals against the deep, saturated greens of the surrounding canyon under dramatic storm-laden clouds.

This vertical 2:3 composition introduces an organic, grounding sense of freshness and botanical beauty into modern interiors. The extreme foreground detail and leading depth make it a striking focal point above an entryway console, nestled between vertical architectural windows, or framing a serene bedroom or dining nook. Its rich natural greens, soft whites, and earthy tones blend effortlessly with light woods, natural linen, and minimalist plaster walls.

  • Print Recommendation: I highly recommend Fine Art Paper or Acrylic for this photograph. The Bamboo paper lends a soft, painterly texture to the delicate petals and foliage, while an Acrylic print accentuates the crisp rain droplets, deep contrast, and vivid coastal green tones.

  • Framing Suggestion: A Natural Light Oak Frame seamlessly echoes the organic botanical vibe, while a Gallery White Frame gives the piece a clean, modern fine-art gallery appeal.

Design Tip: Pull out the vibrant botanical hues by styling the room with natural oak furniture, textured woven rugs, travertine or stone accents, and soft cream textiles.
